Satellite remote sensing for urban and land development can be used to gather strategic planning information pertaining to a district or an entire city. High resolution satellite imagery from satellite sensors such asGeoEye-1, WorldView-2, Worldview-1, QuickBird, IKONOS, Spot-5 aerial photography and LIDAR incorporated into a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) has gained popularity among Planners, Developers and Engineers for large scale mapping of any region for most urban and land development applications.

Land Development — QuickBird
Information from satellite images or aerial photography when combined with GIS mapping is used for analysis in evaluating construction costs as well as environmental impacts of alternative routes for utility and transport corridors; land cover and land use classification; identifying population groups at risk where human intervention is most needed to limit and prevent hazards during development stages.

Satellite Images of the Palm islands construction project helped engineering companies organize, plan and monitor Dubai's number one tourist destination. The three large man-made resort islands (Jumeirah, Jebel Ali and Deira) are built on the shorelines of Dubai, UAE which added 520 km of beaches to the city. Two of the islands are designed in the shape of a date palm tree and the most current project, island Deira will shaped in a corniche which is estimated to be completed by 2015. The islands are artificial peninsulas constructed of sand dredged from the bottom of the Arabian Gulf which is sprayed by dredging onto the required area in a process known as rainbowing due to the way the sand arcs when sprayed. The outer edge of each Palm's encircling crescent is a large rock to breakwater. The island supports luxury hotels, freehold residential villas, unique water homes, shoreline apartments, marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities, health spas, cinemas and various diving sites.
Satellite image data is highly useful for creating or updating base maps and detecting major changes in urban land cover and land use from imagery such as LANDSAT and ASTER satellite sensors due to their multispectral band combinations, which allows for frequent coverage and overlaying of different time sequences to classify soil and vegetation areas for the proposed development area(s). Other applications include:

Satellite Imaging Corporation is experienced in negotiating custom satellite images within both satellite and client-governed time-line, we work with image data from many United States and foreign operated satellites to procure the desired satellite image and data needed for city planning and urban land development projects. Our geodetic and mapping experts create two-dimensional interactive mapping projects by overlaying third-party data, such as land cadastre ownership information, census data, and labels of geographic features. Other services we provide are:
Our imaging, geographic information system (GIS), global positioning system (GPS), and geodesy experts are experienced in the extraction, manipulation, and supplementation of satellite images and imaging data, by using our advanced remote sensing techniques, we can provide color and panchromatic image data processing services, as well as orthorectification, pan sharpening with image data fusion, image enhancements, georeferencing, mosaicing, and color/grayscale balancing. We also provide optional satellite imaging features that may incorporate specialized processing procedures for your industry's and project needs.
